Tucked away in the Southern Sierra Nevada mountains, there’s a town you’ve probably never heard of: Havilah. It’s the place our co-founder calls home, and most importantly, it’s the place that inspired us to create something bigger than ourselves—a company rooted in the belief that giving back is the true measure of success.
Inspired by our faith, our travels brought us to Central America where over the course of 4 years we met incredible entrepreneurs with big dreams. Witnessing their strength and adversity galvanized us to build something that could help more people cultivate their God-given potential. The result was Havilah & Co., where every candle tells a story, and every purchase makes a difference.
Sure, we strive for success, but the way we measure success is different. We see profit not just as something to grow, but as something to share. That’s why we give away 50% of our profits to help young adults build lives free of need and full of promise.
Why We Give
When most people build a company, they start by asking “what” and “how?” At Havilah & Co., we flip that script and start with “why?”
We’ve had our fair share of people call us crazy for our business model, but for us it’s a no-brainer. Havilah & Co. is built on the principle that investing in people is the best way to make a lasting impact. In our eyes, success isn’t measured by how much we can get, it's about how much we can give—and candles are our vehicle to put our faith into action.
With every candle we sell, 50% of the profits go directly to supporting individuals in communities that don’t often have access to the resources needed to start and grow a business. The goal? To provide the tools, support, and encouragement needed to help people leverage their own talents and build better lives for themselves and their families.
To date, we’ve trained more than 1,000 entrepreneurs across four countries, totaling 5,844 hours invested and $571,900 given away. To be clear, we’re not about writing checks and hoping for the best. We forge deep bonds with the people we meet—flying to their countries, having dinner with their families, crying over hardships, celebrating successes, and even attending weddings!
